As you complete this application, remember that this award wants to highlight each animal's unique personality, which should be captured in your submission.

How to submit your application

  • Ensure your venue complies with the eligibility criteria set out at the start of the application form.
  • Complete all sections on the form.
  • Upload supporting content showing the unique personality of the animal as per submission requirements outlined below.

Submission requirements

  • Only 1 application can be submitted per venue.
  • The application must be specific to one individual animal at the venue.
  • The application should reflect how the grant will benefit the individual animal and the activities of the venue.

Regarding the unique animal personality trait (video)

  • The application needs to include personality traits related to the normal behaviour of the species.
  • Not eligible are behaviours of the following kind; trained behaviours, behaviours triggered by human interactions (e.g. shouting, gesturing, food restrictions or restraining), behaviours indicating stress, discomfort or pain, or behaviours demonstrating aggression or fear.
  • Video must not exceed 2 minutes, and should be recorded in a portrait/vertical orientation and uploaded in one of the following formats: AVI, MP4, .mov, AVCHD.
  • Videos cannot be edited, have special effects, or music.
    It is important that the unique behaviour is recognisable through this content, ideally in a concise manner.
  • As a guide here you will find excellent examples of applications from previous years.

Guidelines for uploading additional files

  • Upload your company logo if applicable.
  • Upload a maximum of 4 photographs of the animal.
  • Photos can be a mixture of portrait and landscape.
  • Photos do not need to be close up, a good distance is preferred.
  • Photos must not be edited, cropped, or feature any decorative additions such as graphics or type.

Terms and conditions

1. The Promoter

1.1    The Promoter is: World Animal Protection of 5th Floor, 222 Gray’s Inn Road, London, WC1X 8HB.

2. The competition

2.1    The title of the competition is Wild Animal Unique Personality Award 2024.

3. How to enter

3.1    The competition will run from Friday 3rd May 2024 (the "Opening Date") to Thursday 7 July 2024 at 23:59 (GMT+1) (the "Closing Date") inclusive.

3.2    All competition entries must be received by the Promoter at AudreyAward@worldanimalprotection.org via online entry form no later than midnight (GMT+1) on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.

3.3   To enter the competition:

(a) enter the competition online by online entry form provided on the World Animal Protection website at https://www.worldanimalprotection.org/wild-animal- unique-personality-award/application-form/

3.4    The Promoter will not accept:

(a) responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged, or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or

(b) proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.

3.5    By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

3.7    The competition entries will be judged by a panel of five judges who will rank the entries based on animal welfare and sentience criteria, creating a shortlist of entries to be voted on by supporters.

(a) Organisations selected to move to the second phase will have an interview with the Promoter where the information entered in the application will be verified before being shortlisted.

(b) Shortlisted entries will be presented on social media for two weeks, allowing the public and World Animal Protection supporters to vote for their favourite wild animal personality and share the entries via their social media.

(c) The decision of the panel of judges (acting reasonably) and the voting will be final.

3.8    The Promoter will send the full names of the judges to anyone who writes or emails within one month after the Closing Date of the competition requesting details of the judges and who encloses a self-addressed envelope to the Promoters address set out in condition 1 OR emails AudreyAward@worldanimalprotection.org.

4. Eligibility

4.1    The competition is open to all high welfare wildlife sanctuaries or rescue centres legally registered and that meet the eligibility criteria set out here https://www.worldanimalprotection.org/wild-animal-unique-personality-award/terms-and-conditions/ except:

(a) employees of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies;

(b) employees of agents or suppliers of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or

(c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.

4.2    In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim the prize you may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.

4.3    The Promoter will not accept competition entries that are:

(a) automatically generated by computer;

(b) completed by third parties or in bulk;

(c) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;

(d) photocopies and not originals; or

(e) incomplete.

4.5    The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

4.6    Competition entries cannot be returned.

5. The prize

5.1    The prize is a one-off $10,000 USD to the winner, and a one-off $3,000 USD to the runner up, which is to be used to provide care and protection to the wild animals at the facility.

5.2    The prize is supplied by the Promoter. The Promoter reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Promoter's control makes it necessary to do so.

5.3    The prize cannot be used for communication, fundraising, or for purposes different from the ones stated in the application unless a formal request is sent and authorised by World Animal Protection.

5.4    The prize is not negotiable or transferable.

6. Winners

6.1    The decision of the Promoter is final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

6.2    The Promoter will contact the winner and runner up personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the telephone number or email address provided with the competition entry.

6.3    If you object to any or all of your surname and winning entry being published or made available, please contact the Promoter: AudreyAward@worldanimalprotection.org. In such circumstances, the Promoter must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

7. Claiming the prize

7.1    The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

7.2    The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner and runner up. If the winner and runner up cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize within 30 of days of the Announcement Date, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

7.3    The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.

8. Limitation of liability

8.1    Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

9. Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights

9.1    All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned.

9.2    By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:

(a) assign to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights with full title guarantee; and

(b) waive all moral rights,

in and to your competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.

9.3    You agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website and any other media, whether now known or invented in the future, and in connection with any publicity of the competition. You agree to grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry [and any accompanying materials], to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry [and any accompanying materials] for such purposes.

10. Data protection and publicity

10.1    The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out in the Privacy Policy here: https://www.worldanimalprotection.org/legal/privacy-policy/. See also conditions 6.3 and 6.4, with regard to the announcement of winners.

11. General

11.1    If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

11.2    The Promoter reserves the right to hold, void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

These terms and conditions are governed by English law. If any entrants to this promotion wish to take court proceedings, then they must do this within the courts in the United Kingdom.
